AN EXTRAORDINARY PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION OF SICILY'S VAL DI NOTO, RECENTLY DECLARED BY UNESCO
AS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE.
Professor Salvatore Silvano Nigro writes about Giuseppe Leone's photographic art:
Leone's camera moves into the patrician residences, the middle-class salons, the conversation
societies, the churches. It makes the shadows heavier, it explores the tomb-like silences, it
records the empty noise of conversations, it seals the silences that slip from old mouths, it spies
on gestures and gossips, prides and vanities. It wanders among steep flights of steps. It
consecrates and desecrates. And it stops in dismay in front of ruins, the steep remains of a dead
town. A memento mori now comes onto the stage.
