Our teaching Methods
The Italian language classes offered at the Museo are taught by native Italian instructors who are experienced in teaching Italian to English speakers. The classes use a multimedia approach and are limited to a small number of students. Emphasis is on conversation from the beginning.
We encourage you to lessen the mental stress of speaking in class with a glass of wine and
a bite of formaggio now and then!
And... remember, studying Italian is fun, because you learn all about the most
beautiful country in the world and its 'simpatici' inhabitants!
Textbooks are available at the Museo ItaloAmericano with the exception of "Da Capo, 6th Edition" textbooks which can be purchased online.
Schedule subject to changes -- Please check the website for current schedule information.
The thrill of going from 0 Italian to being able to order 'caffè macchiato' at a caffè, to ask for directions to the Colosseo and to greet your newly found cousins in Genova!
Continue to enrich your vocabulary while learning the Passato Prossimo, adjectives and imperfetto.
Complete your study of Italian grammar, including the CONGIUNTIVO, the CONDIZIONALE and much more!
Now that you know everything about Italian food and wine, you can begin to learn about Italy's contemporary literature: humor writers, Achille Campanile, Beppe Severgnini or more serious ones, Natalia Ginzburg, Leonardo Sciascia, Alberto Moravia and many others. And, while you discuss the text, your teacher will gently remind you about the subjunctive, the double negative and the use of 'fare' with the infinitive! Films based on reading material will be shown as available.
This course provides a selective survey of the major works of painting, sculpture, and architecture of the Roman Renaissance, covering the years 1400-1600. The course is organized by genres of Renaissance art and addresses the spaces of city squares, churches, chapels, confraternities, palaces, and villas along with their painted and sculptural decoration (altarpieces, narrative cycles, devotional painting, portraits, civic sculpture, papal tombs, and fountains). The course delves deeply into the Roman Papacy and the intriguing celestial space of Vatican City.
Converse about Italian art, cuisine, fashion design and opera while reviewing those boring pronouns, prepositions and the mystifying use of the imperfetto.
